Hello,
Bonjour
and
Hola
from
Equip
KIDS
International!
A
couple
months
have
passed
since
our
last
update
and
it’s
time
for
more
news.
In
Cusco,
Peru,
our
therapists
continue
to
work
with
students
in
our
Augmentative
and
Alternative
Communication
(AAC)
program.
The
last
couple
of
months
have
brought
about
some
exciting
achievements
from
some
of
our
newer
students.
In
addition,
our
work
with
the
student’s
families
has
met
with
great
success
and
appreciation.
We’ve
also
gotten
involved
in
some
new
projects,
a
few
of
which
are
mentioned
below:
• We
are
currently
participating
in
a
Community-Based
Rehabilitation
(CBR)
program
in
southern
Peru
that
teaches
local
individuals
how
to
treat
and
support
people
with
disabilities
in
their
own
communities.
Through
this
program
our
therapists
are
teaching
community
health
leaders
the
basics
of
Augmentative
and
Alternative
Communication
and
about
the
importance,
use
and
production
of
assistive
devices.
Bringing
these
new
skills
to
remote
communities
will
enable
kids
(and
adults)
with
disabilities
to
become
more
fully
integrated
and
to
participate
in
community
and
family
life.
• Recently,
Equip
KIDS
International
became
front-page
news
for
our
local
newspaper.
I
have
attached
a
copy
of
the
article,
as
well
as
a
copy
of
the
cover
picture
for
those
of
you
who
are
interested.
Although
there
are
some
misquotes
and
small
inaccuracies,
I
like
the
general
tone
of
this
article,
as
it
addresses
awareness
and
human
rights
issues.
• June
19th,
2004,
we
will
be
participating
in
the
2nd
annual
Festival
of
Wheels
in
Toronto,
Canada.
This
fundraising
event
accompanies
the
Rolling
Rampage,
a
wheelchair
race
that
is
part
of
the
American
tour
(for
professional
wheelchair
athletes).
At
the
Festival
of
Wheels,
individuals
(both
able-bodied
and
disabled)
will
have
the
opportunity
to
wheel
5
km
(in
a
wheelchair,
by
bicycle,
roller
blades
or
skateboard)
to
raise
pledges
for
Equip
KIDS.
This
is
a
chance
for
our
friends
in
the
Toronto
area
to
get
involved
in
a
fun
way.
And
those
of
you
who
would
like
to
participate
but
are
unable
to
make
it
to
the
event
itself
can
support
one
of
our
many
“wheelers”
with
pledges.
Look
for
more
information
via
email
and
on
our
web
site
in
the
coming
weeks.
Information
on
the
Rolling
Rampage
and
its
accompanying
events
can
be
found
at
www.rollingrampage.com
Well,
that’s
all
for
now,
as
I
am
making
an
effort
to
keep
this
update
short.
However,
do
expect
more
news
from
me
shortly.
And,
if
you
have
any
questions
or
would
like
more
information
on
any
of
our
programs
or
events,
please
feel
free
to
contact
me
at
dcorfield@equipkids.org.
I
love
hearing
from
you.
To
those
of
you
who
celebrate
it
-
Happy
Easter.
And
to
everybody,
Happy
Spring.
Summer
is
on
its
way!
Take
care
and
keep
in
touch.
Warm
regards,
Dana
Corfield
