Current programs

Distribution

The distribution of donated goods, such as new and used wheelchairs, walkers, toys and communication devices, to impoverished children and youth. We partner with a wonderful organization called Eleanore's project that comes down once a year to do wheelchair clinics for kids in our area. This involves education and follow up, in addition to providing equipment. We also receive and distribute equipment received from other individuals and organizations.

Production

The local production of low-cost assistive technology, using local materials and employing local disabled and able-bodied workers. Our ultimate goal is to be able to produce as much as possible locally. This makes assistive technology more sustainable while supporting the local economy.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)

The promotion and implementation of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) programs that serve individuals of all socio-economic classes. AAC teaches those who cannot communicate (well) through speech other strategies and tools to communicate. We meet A LOT of non-verbal children who haven't had the opportunity to develop their communication - something so vital for sharing, integration and participation, as well as learning and development.

Education

Educational programs, including workshops, seminars and conferences about assistive technology, AAC, human rights and disability in general, presented to children, caregivers, professionals and communities. Education is a of primary importance to us. It is how we multiply our effectiveness. We hold a biannual conference, as well as over a dozen workshops annually. Through education, we hope to give others working with children with disabilities (in Peru and beyond) the tools they need to drastically improve lives. It is also through less formal education that we hope to teach and motivate parents and communities to support their children and to demand their rights.

Other projects

Other efforts, such as physiotherapy, speech therapy services and a library, which we coordinate in order to improve the lives of children with disabilities.
