Education is the key to empowerment and long-term change and, as such, plays an integral role in our work. We provide workshops, materials and advice for children, caregivers and professionals. Topics include assistive technology, information about specific disabilities and best practices. We also provide free training in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and the production and use of assistive technology.

We typically put on a dozen or more workshops and other educational events a year, some of which are listed below as an example. We also organize and host a biannual conference on Augmentative and Alternative Communication, for which you can find more information on our Conference page.

"Low-cost, homemade assistive technology - Its importance, production and use"

3 half day workshops presented for families of children with disabilities. Parents were taught how to evaluate, design and build simple assistive technology devices. Two adapted seats were produced by the parents during the workshops and were donated to disabled children residing in a pediatric rehabilitation centre in Cusco, Peru.

"Locally-made assistive technology - for professionals"

A seminar presented to local nurses, doctors, physiotherapists, etc., demonstrating assistive devices that can be built locally and discussing their importance and proper use.

"An introduction to Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) - for Professionals"

"Introduction to Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) - for Special-Education Teachers"
